The Nigerian Navy has applauded the Anambra state government’s plan to position mobile artillery on the River Niger to check insurgency and oil bunkering. The Commanding officer of the Naval Out-Post in Onitsha, Captain Mike Oamen said this while Governor Willie Obiano pledged to donate a high artillery gun-boat to the navy.
Oamen said the gun-boat will make Onitsha and its neighboring riverine communities safer. The commander adds that the days of using Onitsha and its environs as operation grounds for oil bunkering are over. Reports suggest the navy has taken over the task of restoring security, sanity, and night life in Onitsha and the neighboring riverine communities
